EOHA/ANSES side-event: One Health Strengthening Europe: Insights from European Initiatives

In the framework of the One Health Strengthening Europe initiative (OHSE), coordinated by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the EOHA and the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) organised a 2 hours side-event during the OSH4all conference in Lyon on the 4^th of November.

This side event was dedicated to presenting major EU-funded initiatives that address the One Health approach in a fully effective way in the fields of human, veterinary and food public health. Several European initiatives are currently addressing the One Health approach, some of which also include the environmental, plant and ecosystem health. Five main consortia with which the EOHA is in close contact were selected to present during the event.

• The Joint Action OH4Surveillance (OH4Surveillance)
• The Joint Action EU-JAMRAI (EU-JAMRAI)
• The EU Partnership One Health AMR (Home – EUP OHAMR)
• The EU partnership on animal health and welfare (EUPAHW – Home)

Given the number of large initiatives that include One Health in their activities, the challenge will be to consolidate their outcomes in order to efficiently advance cross-sectoral collaboration and achieve truly implementation of One Health across Europe. During this side event, each of the five EU initiatives presented their objectives, achievements in advancing One Health and challenges encountered. This was followed by a panel discussion aiming at finding synergies and opportunities for beneficial cooperation among the initiatives.
